I usually put anchors at the x-height/cap-height, but you're right, they could be anywhere that is convenient as long as you are aware of it. I don't position them differently for overshoots normally…3 -

I would tend to go with the first one, even if it seems inconsistent with the /y. A tail on a /j that sticks out too much to the left will not only have some bad collisions, it will jump out at the b…8 -
